When taking a photo of a landscape, I always hope I can catch just a portion of the magnificence and beauty of it all.
After visiting Dead Horse Point this past spring, I saw this awesome twisted tree and I had to get a picture of it, and hopefully I could capture just a little of the surrounding area’s beauty. After a lot of adjustments and enhancements, I believe I was able to harness some of that awe moment.

Dead Horse Point State Park is a slender peninsula of land extending off the massive plateau that is the home to Canyonlands National Park’s Island in the Sky district in southeastern Utah.
The park sits above the White rim Trail in Canyonland National Park and offers magnificent views of Moab, the La Sal Mountains to the south and the Colorado River, 2000 feet below. According to legend, the area got its name when brutal horse drovers created a natural horse corral on the plateau. Due to the harsh desert environment, some horses died from exposure.
The original piece of artwork was done by digitally painting a photograph.
